How to measure for a pair of riding boots

Riding boots are an important part of any rider’s wardrobe, but with so many sizes to choose from, how can you make sure that your long leather riding boots are the perfect fit? Luckily, we have a guide here to help.

Can you buy long riding boots online?

Yes, you absolutely can buy long riding boots online and through taking careful measurements, you increase your chances of getting a really good fit. We believe that if you want your boots to fit like a glove, the best thing to do is to come in store and, this way, you can try on a range of boots and get the perfect pair for you with minimal effort.

How do you measure the width of riding boots?

To get a good, close fit, you need to make sure you accurately measure the width of your leg. To do this, take a tape measure and go around the widest part of your calf. Make sure you get the size in cm and inches and some boots are still measured inches.

How do you measure the length of the length for riding boots?

The length of riding boots is another key measurement that helps to ensure a close, elegant, comfortable fit. To do this, find the bottom of the knee cap, move around the leg to the back and then measure to the floor. That is the length that should fit you.

Is it hard to measure for long riding boots?

It can be tricky but get someone to help you and use a soft tape measure and it should really help you to do the best job you can.

What is the best way to buy riding boots?

In all honesty the very best way is to go into a shop and try on lots of different makes and models to find your perfect fit. Even if you’ve taken all of your measurements correctly sometimes you just won’t be able to tally them properly with a size chart.

And don’t forget, even if you’re measuring your calf at it’s widest point, it’s not necessarily going to correspond with the widest part of the boot – it’ll depend on the shaping of the boot too.

That said, we know that it’s not always an option to come in store, so if you’d like to buy a pair online then please give us a call if you’re not sure what size to choose.

Don’t forget, all items purchase through our web-site are refundable with 60 days provided they’re in an ‘as new’ condition.

Technical Information
Ariat products combine state of the art technology with the highest quality leathers.

To keep your footwear looking and performing at its best, we recommend Ariat’s own range of cleaning and conditioning products which are specifically designed for the leathers they use.

It is important to follow their care instructions, as regular attention will not only keep your footwear looking great but will help to enhance its life span.

Routine Care:

  1. Remove all dirt from the boots and zips with a clean damp cloth.
  2. Spray the Ariat Footwear Cleaner evenly all over damped footwear (including the suede or nubuck sections) and work into the boot using a brush or sponge. Remove any excess footwear cleaner with clean water.
  3. Allow the boots to dry naturally at room temperature, away from direct heat and sunlight.
  4. Apply the Ariat Leather Conditioner evenly and sparingly across smooth leather. Once dried remove any excess product. This product is not suitable for rubber, nubuck or suede.
  5. Apply the Ariat Leather Cream Polish sparingly and work into the leather in circular motions using a cloth. With a soft brush remove any residual product and buff to shine. This product is not suitable for rubber, nubuck or suede.
  6. In a well-ventilated area, spray the Ariat Footwear Waterproofer evenly all over dry boots. Allow to dry for 12 hours for maximum performance. Remove any excess with a cloth.
To extend the life of your footwear:
  1. Regularly clean, condition and polish (if applicable).
  2. Use erasers or a dry brush to remove marks.
  3. Waterproof to defend against the elements.
  4. If the boots/shoes become saturated they should have insoles removed before being stuffed loosely with absorbent tissue paper and allowed to dry at normal room temperature, away from direct heat.
  5. Use boot trees to help retain the shape of tall boots.
For even longer wear…
  1. Try to avoid wearing the same pair every day as the combination of humidity and bacteria from your feet can cause faster deterioration.
  2. Avoid placing leather boots/shoes near direct heat as this can cause the leather to become dry and brittle, resulting in cracking.
  3. Ask us for more information on caring for your Ariat purchase and to see the full range of Ariat leather care products.
