If you’re new to the equestrian competition world, or just trying to figure out what to wear for your next dressage competition, this helpful guide should navigate you through. Dressage competition clothing is typically sleek, understated and elegant but it should also be comfortable and functional so you look good but also feel great when you\u2019re in the arena.<\/p>

Riding Breeches<\/strong><\/span><\/a>: A pair of white or beige breeches or jodhpurs are traditional and make a polished look, but new rules in 2024 from British Dressage allow solid colours of breeches and jodhpurs to be worn too! If you\u2019re looking to keep your breeches or jodhpurs clean, we recommend wearing over trousers or joggers to stay clean on show day before you get in the saddle too!<\/p>

Show shirt<\/a>: <\/strong><\/span>A breathable show shirt is a great investment as we know how hot riders get in the warm up and in the arena under jackets and safety equipment. Depending on the rules for your level\/competition, you might opt for a stock shirt with stock, or collared shirt with tie.<\/p>

Show Jacket<\/strong><\/a>: A black or navy show jacket is traditional and exudes sophistication whilst competing in a dressage competition.\u00a0 Tweed can also be worn, but recent revisions to the British Dressage rules allow solid colours to be worn too (before you buy,\u00a0 do read the rules).<\/p>

For advanced classes and higher, a tailcoat option is permitted, and there\u2019s a wealth of options available<\/p>

Footwear<\/strong><\/a>: Most competitors will opt for a smart long pair of riding boots- in either black or brown but any colour is acceptable for British Dressage competitions. Some people wear smart short boots with matching gaiters or chaps to give a similar look. Make sure they are comfortable and worn in – don\u2019t wear new boots on the day of a show!<\/p>

Safety wear:<\/strong> you will need a riding hat<\/a>\u00a0that conforms to current standards, and you can also wear a\u00a0body protector<\/a>\u00a0if you would like to.<\/p>
