We totally get it. Valentine’s can be ‘gimicky’ and all about looooove… but as equestrians, we know that your one true love is actually your horse. Always happy to see you when you arrive at the yard in the morning (no matter what you look like), never answers back with a sarcastic quip, and can’t run away from you as they are locked in their stable over night.

We thought we would put together some fun date ideas for you and your horse this Valentine’s…

  1. A Pick n Mix Horse Treats Bucket

Instead of splashing out at the cinema for date night, why not fill up a horsey pick n mix bucket and watch them enjoy all the different flavours while you can admire their happy faces? If you’re local to us, why not grab yourself a Maxima Pick n Mix Horse Treat Bucket! If not, check them out here and we’ll make one for you (we actually really enjoy doing this!)

  1. A Pamper Night

A horse being groomed with a brushLet’s face it, trying to book a spa night is ridiculously expensive these days. Head to the stables with your grooming kit and spend the time pampering your pony.

From detangling their tail, to getting ready of the hard-to-reach muddy spots, it’s a satisfying job that is often overlooked. Grooming is also a really fab way to bond with your horse and check them over for any lumps or bumps.

  1. Day Trip

What better way to spend your Valentine’s weekend than with a little day trip planned for you and your horse? Why not try a new bridlepath or check out some wooded areas that are suitable to box up and ride around. We have a fabulous wood with great parking near us, it’s called Rushmere Country Park and it’s a lot of fun to ride around. If you’re local, check out all the details here: https://www.greensandtrust.org/Event/rushmere-horse-pass

  1. A Bed Fit Enough for a Queen

Okay okay, mucking out isn’t THE most glamorous job us equestrians face, but it’s part and parcel of owning/looking after horses.

Why not treat your Valentine (your horse) to a nice new fresh bed of shavings, or big fluffy banks? It’s a satisfying job and deep down, you know they’ll appreciate it – and it’s cheaper than a fancy hotel for the night!

  1. Romantic Coffee Date

The idea of meeting up with your loved one for romantic stroll & grabbing coffee is FINE but it’s not really what you need. Why not text all your yard friends and organise a Galentine’s Day at the yard. Pop the kettle on, grab some cake and enjoy actual decent chat – all about horses and ponies… what more do you need this Valentine’s?
