Aigle vs. Le Chameau. A guide to choosing the best wellington boot for you

Aigle vs. Le Chameau. A guide to choosing the best wellington boot for you

Aigle and Le Chameau are two of the most popular wellington brands we sell. Both are premium, have lots of fans, and have people swearing that they’d never be without them. If you’re thinking of upgrading your wellies and opting for either of these iconic French brands, how do you decide which to go for? Here are some things to consider to help you decide…

Fit – it’s said that Le Chameau offers a more tailored fit, and Aigle is more accommodating for wider calves. That said, many Le Chameau models have zips and adjustable features from calf to top of boot to accommodate a range of sizes - and there are different calf sizes available in some models. Aigle boots also feature adjustment around the top to allow for a more precise calf fit

Linings – both boots have different lining options available, but arguably, Le Chameau’s range is more luxurious. In addition to neoprene, you can also find Le Chameau wellingtons with leather and jersey linings. Aigle boots are available with neoprene and polyester linings as standard, but there are also faux fur linings available on some models.

Style – for classic country style, Le Chameau shines - there’s even a colour that’s synonymous with the brand. Aigle has a wider range of colours, styles and collaborations that make them a good choice for country and town too.

Soles – both boots have durable soles. Whilst Le Chameau is known for its stability, Aigle is known for its anti-fatigue design. Aigle’s tri-density soles are designed for people who walk and spend a lot of time on their feet- to help prevent their legs getting tired.

Materials – both use high quality materials in the construction. Le Chameau has its own Chamolux rubber known for how soft and supple it is, and Aigle uses natural vulcanised rubber.

Price – the price points are similar, and both have models at either end of the cost scale.

What are they known for? Le Chameau is known as a luxury boot and has made itself a sought-after brand with the country set. Aigle is best known as a work horse, with the key models known to support people who spend a lot of time outside, on their feet.

In truth, both brands make great wellingtons – so there’s no bad option! Sometimes it’s down to personal preference and even colour, but on other occasions some features just made more sense for their use. If you’re local to us, come in store and give them a try!
