We want you to be happy with any item you buy from us. The information below sets out how to return an item, what it costs and how quickly you will be repaid.

Please note: where you have bought a product as part of a promotional offer, any free gifts must be returned with the purchased items to obtain a full refund. If free gifts are not returned, the full price of that gift will be deducted from your refund.

How long do I have to return my goods?

You have 60 days from the date of delivery to return them to us.

I want to return my goods for an exchange or a refund.

Please:

i) complete the returns form (either enclosed with your item or download the form using the link at the top of the page) telling us what you want to exchange it for;
ii) return the goods to us in a clean, dry and unused state with all original packaging and labelling; and
iii) do not fix labels or mark the original packaging of the goods otherwise we cannot resell it.

If you wish to return a Samshield Riding Hat, then it MUST be:

  • clean, undamaged and unused;
  • returned in the original Samshield packaging and labels must be intact.
  • still have its security tag attached;
  • sent back in packaging at least equivalent to that in which it was sent to you, namely: in its Samshield presentation box; within a double walled packing box; and with any void filled with protective padding (e.g. bubblewrap); and
  • any liner and/or hat bag supplied with the hat must also be returned.

If any of these requirements are unfulfilled we reserve the right to return the hat to you and not issue any refund.

Returns Labels

We can send you a returns label for you to send the item from a Post Office but there is a charge of:
• £3.99 if your item weighs less than 2kg and is less than 61cm wide and 46cm deep and 46cm wide;
• £8.99 if your item weighs more than 2kg or is larger than the dimensions described above.

Please request your returns label by email to [email protected]. If you do not use either of these services, then you are responsible for the full cost of the returns.

My item was faulty and I want to return it?

Thankfully manufacturing faults are rare and we would expect these to become apparent shortly after the product is used for the first time. There is an assumption that products purchased more than 6 months ago that have developed damage are unlikely to be faulty.

Please contact us as soon as you think your product may have developed a fault as we may be able to deal with it without having the product returned to us. Please email us at [email protected] with full details and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please note that in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 we can only accept items returned to us for inspection if they are clean and dry, even if they are faulty.

How and when will I be refunded?

Provided the goods are in an as new condition we will refund the cost of the goods (less any relevant shipping charge) onto the card/PayPal which you used to make the original payment.

We will process the refund as soon as possible after receipt of the goods, normally by the next working day. Please be aware this can a few days to be shown on your card/PayPal account.

What can’t I return?

We are not able to accept special order items, DVDs, CDs, computer software, books or underwear for refund or exchange unless they are faulty.

When it comes to fly protection, fit is everything. A well-fitting fly rug and mask will keep your horse comfortable, calm and protected from annoying insects and harmful UV rays. But too tight and you’ll risk rubbing and pressure sores – too loose and you may find it halfway across the field! In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to measure your horse, what to look out for in terms of fit & how to avoid common sizing mistakes.

How to Measure Your Horse for a Fly Rug

Fly rugs are sized just like turnout rugs – in feet and inches, measured from the centre of the chest to the back of the hindquarters (usually the edge of the tail).

Step-by-Step:

  1. Stand your horse square on level ground
  2. Use a soft tape measure or piece of string (why not watch our useful YouTube guide to measuring a horse for a rug)
  3. Measure from the middle of the chest, across the side and around to the point where the rug should end (just before the tail)
  4. Round up to the nearest available rug size (e.g. 6’0, 6’3, 6’6)

Most UK brands such as Shires, Weatherbeeta and LeMieux use this method. Top Tip: Some brands may come up slightly smaller or larger, so always check the manufacturer’s size guide – or ask us for advice!

Fly Rug Fit Checklist

Once you’ve got the rug on:

  • It should sit snugly but not tightly across the chest and shoulders
  • The rug should lie flat along the back with no pulling or gaping
  • Belly straps should be secure but not digging in
  • Tail flap should sit neatly over the dock without lifting or twisting
  • You horse should be able to move freely without restriction

Fly Rugs Care Guide

  • By their nature, mesh style fly rugs are less durable and more prone to tearing than standard turnout rugs.
  • Look for tougher rugs (like the Rambo Protector) or choose a sweet-itch version if your horse is a bit of a rug wreaker as these are likely to be more durable.
  • Check and clean straps, fittings and stitching regularly
  • Keep rugs in a dry and airy place when not in use
  • Wash rugs at 30°C with a mild, non-biological soap and leave to line or drip dry - do NOT tumble dry or dry clean

To keep your rug in top condition follow these easy steps:

Inspect for wear and tear:

  • Check fabric for small tears
  • Check all stitching for loose threads
  • Check buckles for rusting or bending
  • Ideally rotate rugs to allow moisture to evaporate

Cleaning your horse rug

While we would always recommend sending your rug to a professional rug cleaning company, however it is possible to keep your rug in good condition at home.

  • Lay over a fence and using a firm bristled brush, brush off dry mud
  • Turnover and repeat process to remove hair on the underside of the rug
  • Your rug can be washed in the washing machine – always check the care instructions first
  • Use natural soap flakes or a specific rug wash detergent, especially if the rug is waterproof, to preserve the weather resistance
  • Air dry
Sizing Information

To ensure that your rug fits perfectly measure your horse in feet and inches from centre of the chest to his buttocks in line with the dock. This will give you the bottom measurement of the rug.

Before you use the rug ensure that it fits properly – it is always best to measure and try products. When doing this, try the rug on over a thin, clean summer sheet to keep it debris free and do not remove any tags until you are happy that the rug fits.
