Prolite Performance Narrow Gauge Long Girth in Black

Season:AllYear26

Brand:Prolite

Code:R002362

Designed for GP and two‑flap jump saddles, this girth is scientifically proven to reduce pressure and allow freer shoulder motion. The narrow-gauge cut and contoured design avoid the sensitive area behind the horse’s elbow, while cushioning at the front edge ("buffer zone") prevents hard edges that could rub or restrict.

The long style ensures that buckles fasten on the sweat flap, away from sensitive skin. It’s non‑elasticated, made to a premium specification, and built for all‑round use from schooling to competition. The finish is sleek and practical and the built‑in martingale or breastplate attachment (central buckle) adds utility.

A proper fit is essential. The narrow gauge is intended for horses where the area between the elbows is under 20 cm or those with forward girth grooves. If the girth is measured and fitted correctly, riders report a noticeable improvement in movement and comfort.

Features

  • Unrestricted shoulder movement thanks to contoured front and narrow gauge design
  • Cushioning at the front edge avoids hard pressure and prevents rubbing
  • Central buckle allows easy martingale or breastplate attachment
  • Long girth style with buckles positioned away from the horse’s skin for added protection
  • Suitable from schooling through to competition; it's durable and practical
  • Sleek, minimalist colour works with most saddles and bridles

Colours

Available in Black and Brown.

RB Equestrian’s Expert View

In our experience, this girth offers high value especially for horses that tend to be sensitive behind the shoulder. The combination of fit, cushioning and design, results in a girth that feels really supportive without being restrictive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does “narrow gauge” mean and how do I know if my horse needs it?Narrow gauge means the girth is shaped to have a slimmer front section, giving more clearance behind the elbow. Use this size if the flat area between your horse’s elbows is less than 20 cm. Will the long girth work with my saddle type?Yes, it’s designed for GP (general purpose) and two‑flap jump saddles. The long style ensures buckles fasten on the sweat flap rather than directly against sensitive skin. Is this girth elasticated? No, this model is non‑elasticated. The design relies on correct fit, contouring, and cushioning rather than stretch.

Technical Information

Care

  • A build-up of dried sweat on or in the girth will interfere with the Prolite's breathability. This may eventually cause the girth to lose its flexibility and become hard.
  • All that's needed to maintain the girth is a bucket of water, plus a cloth or soft brush. A mild detergent can also be added to the water, especially if the girth is dirty or smelly.
  • Simply dunk the girth in the water and use the cloth/brush to gently remove any stubborn grime or dirt.
  • Remove as much water as possible with a towel, then allow the girth to dry completely before using again. There is no need to apply any further products.

Please note: Failure to care for your girth correctly, and allowing sweat to build up in the fabric, will cause the material to become hard and eventually crack.

Sizing Information

How to Measure for Your Prolite Girth

Prolite Girths are measured buckle end to buckle end. For long girths, the size is typically stamped on one of the near side leather girth straps. If the girth is a narrow gauge, you will see the letters N or NG before or after the numbers (e.g., 44NG or 24N). If there are only numbers, it is a standard gauge girth.

Choosing the Correct Gauge

It is important to select the correct gauge (narrow or standard) for your horse. Choose the narrow gauge if:

  • The flat area between the horse’s elbows measures less than 20 cm.
  • A sweat scraper will not fit between the front legs.
  • Your horse has wrinkly skin behind the elbow (regardless of measurement).
  • Your horse has a forward girth groove (regardless of measurement).

Available Sizes

Size (Inches) 44" 46" 48" 50" 52"
Size (Centimetres) 111 cm 115 cm 120 cm 125 cm 132 cm

Fitting Guidelines

  • Positioning: Always fit the curved section facing forward.
  • Long Girth Fitting: Buckles should fasten on the sweat flap, away from the horse's skin.
  • Even Tension: Always girth up evenly on both sides.
  • Billet Usage: Always pass the billet through the buckles before applying upward pressure. Do not use the billet keeper on its own to tighten the girth, as this will break the central stud.
  • Movement: The gap at the front edge of the girth between the material and the horse’s sternum is part of the design; it allows the shoulder girdle muscles to move freely.
