Typically rug sizes are in feet and inches, in 3 inch increments. Every horse is different, and some horses don't even need a rug at all! The weight of rug your horse needs will vary depending on temperature, whether your horse is clipped, your horse’s breed and age – so we recommend paying attention to your individual horse’s needs. These terms refer to rug thickness (measured in grams of filling). Lightweight rugs typically include anything up to 100g, mediumweight rugs are 150–250g, and heavyweight rugs are 300g+. There are lots of different types of horse rug with varying uses. Turnout rugs are waterproof and designed for outdoor use, keeping your horse warm and dry in the field while stable rugs are not waterproof, but provide warmth and protection for your horse while stabled. Fly rugs are lightweight for summer while protecting your horse from flies and pests.
