We want you to be happy with any item you buy from us. The information below sets out how to return an item, what it costs and how quickly you will be repaid.

Please note: where you have bought a product as part of a promotional offer, any free gifts must be returned with the purchased items to obtain a full refund. If free gifts are not returned, the full price of that gift will be deducted from your refund.

How long do I have to return my goods?

You have 60 days from the date of delivery to return them to us.

I want to return my goods for an exchange or a refund.

Please:

i) complete the returns form (either enclosed with your item or download the form using the link at the top of the page) telling us what you want to exchange it for;
ii) return the goods to us in a clean, dry and unused state with all original packaging and labelling; and
iii) do not fix labels or mark the original packaging of the goods otherwise we cannot resell it.

If you wish to return a Samshield Riding Hat, then it MUST be:

  • clean, undamaged and unused;
  • returned in the original Samshield packaging and labels must be intact.
  • still have its security tag attached;
  • sent back in packaging at least equivalent to that in which it was sent to you, namely: in its Samshield presentation box; within a double walled packing box; and with any void filled with protective padding (e.g. bubblewrap); and
  • any liner and/or hat bag supplied with the hat must also be returned.

If any of these requirements are unfulfilled we reserve the right to return the hat to you and not issue any refund.

Returns Labels

We can send you a returns label for you to send the item from a Post Office but there is a charge of:
• £3.99 if your item weighs less than 2kg and is less than 61cm wide and 46cm deep and 46cm wide;
• £8.99 if your item weighs more than 2kg or is larger than the dimensions described above.

Please request your returns label by email to [email protected]. If you do not use either of these services, then you are responsible for the full cost of the returns.

My item was faulty and I want to return it?

Thankfully manufacturing faults are rare and we would expect these to become apparent shortly after the product is used for the first time. There is an assumption that products purchased more than 6 months ago that have developed damage are unlikely to be faulty.

Please contact us as soon as you think your product may have developed a fault as we may be able to deal with it without having the product returned to us. Please email us at [email protected] with full details and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Please note that in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 we can only accept items returned to us for inspection if they are clean and dry, even if they are faulty.

How and when will I be refunded?

Provided the goods are in an as new condition we will refund the cost of the goods (less any relevant shipping charge) onto the card/PayPal which you used to make the original payment.

We will process the refund as soon as possible after receipt of the goods, normally by the next working day. Please be aware this can a few days to be shown on your card/PayPal account.

What can’t I return?

We are not able to accept special order items, DVDs, CDs, computer software, books or underwear for refund or exchange unless they are faulty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Standard and Round liners?Round liners are thinner at the sides (over the ears) and thicker front and back. Standard liners are the opposite. The fit of your Samshield will be affected not only by the size of the liner but also the style. Round liners are available in sizes 52cm to 60cm while standard liners are available in sizes 52cm to 64cm. Can I swap liners later?Yes, liners are interchangeable within the same shell size. This is great to allow you to swap liners when you’re washing one that’s got a bit grubby! Are Samshield helmets adjustable?They do not use dial systems. Fit is achieved through precise shell and liner sizing. Can I customise my own Samshield helmet?Yes. We regularly arrange bespoke orders and can guide you through all design options in person or remotely. Can you guarantee a Samshield will fit my head?Sadly no! There’s no hat on the market that we can guarantee will fit everyone. If you come and visit us you’ll have a choice of over 500 hats to try at any one time. How tight should a Samshield helmet feel?Like all hats, a correctly fitted Samshield should feel firm and secure – like your head is being given a hug all the way around. It shouldn’t be so tight that it’s digging in; causing pain or obvious pressure points.

Care and Cleaning
To keep your Samshield helmet look it's best, we recommend wiping the outer shell gently with a soft damp cloth and avoiding harsh cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the finish. The removable liner can be taken out and washed at 30 degrees, which makes it easy to keep the inside fresh between rides. For best results, always allow the liner to dry naturally and store your helmet somewhere clean and dry when not in use.

Samshield helmets use an overlapping shell and liner system for a more precise fit. Because of this, the same size in different shell options can feel quite different — for example, a 56 Small liner is thinner than a 56 Medium liner. If you are between sizes or unsure, we usually find it is more common to size up, but trying one on is always the best way to get the right fit.

Samshield Liners
Samshield liners come in Standard, Round and Premium options, so you can fine-tune the fit as well as the size. All Samshied liners are removable, washable and interchangeable within the same shell size, which is really useful for getting the fit just right, or swapping liners when one is being washed.

Samshield Sizing Guide FAQs

Which shell size do I need?

A Small shell takes liners from 52cm to 56cm, a Medium shell takes 55cm to 58cm, a Large shell takes 57cm to 61cm and an XL shell takes 61cm to 64cm.

Why do some sizes appear in more than one shell?

Samshield uses overlapping shell sizes, so some head sizes can fit into more than one shell option. This helps create a more precise and comfortable fit.

Is a 56 Small liner the same as a 56 Medium liner?

No — and this is one of the most important things to understand when choosing a Samshield. A 56 Small liner is thinner, while a 56 Medium liner has more padding. Even though the size number is the same, the fit and feel will be different.

Should I size up or size down?

In most cases, it is more common to size up rather than down, especially if you are between sizes. The best option will also depend on your head shape and how the helmet feels on.

What if I am unsure which size to choose?

If you are not sure which shell and liner combination is right for you, we would always recommend trying a Samshield on before buying. This is the best way to make sure you get the right fit for both your head shape and your chosen helmet model.
